How to Clean and Wash Walls? Cleaning and washing walls can help refresh the look of a room and maintain a clean living environment.
Supplies you may need:
Dusting tools: Use a duster, microfiber cloth, or a broom to remove loose dust and cobwebs from the walls.
Mild cleaning solution: Mix a solution of mild dish soap or a gentle all-purpose cleaner with water. Avoid using harsh chemicals that may damage the paint or finish.
Soft sponges or cloths: Microfiber cloths or soft sponges work well for washing walls.
Bucket: For holding your cleaning solution.
Ladder or step stool: If you need to reach high areas.
Rubber gloves: To protect your hands from cleaning solutions.
Old towels or drop cloths: Place them on the floor to catch any drips.
Steps:
Dust the walls:
Start by removing any loose dust or cobwebs from the walls using a duster or broom. Dust from top to bottom to avoid resettling.
Prepare the cleaning solution:
Mix a small amount of mild dish soap or an all-purpose cleaner with warm water in a bucket. Avoid using too much soap, as it may leave a residue.
Test in an inconspicuous area:
Before cleaning the entire wall, test your cleaning solution in a small, inconspicuous area to ensure it doesn’t damage the paint or finish.
Wash the walls:
Dip a soft sponge or cloth into the cleaning solution and wring out excess water.
Wipe the walls gently, starting from the bottom and working your way up to prevent streaks. Use a light touch, especially if you have flat paint.
Rinse with clean water:
Wipe the walls with a clean, damp cloth or sponge to remove any soap residue. Make sure not to oversaturate the walls.
Dry the walls:
Use a dry, clean cloth or towel to pat the walls dry. This helps prevent streaks and water spots.
Spot cleaning:
For stubborn stains, you can use a mixture of baking soda and water to form a paste. Apply the paste to the stain, let it sit for a few minutes, and then gently scrub with a soft brush or cloth.
Touch-up paint if needed:
If you notice any areas where the paint has been damaged during cleaning, consider touching up those spots with matching paint.
